Description: In September last year, Wayne Couzens was handed a whole life order for the abduction, rape and murder of Sarah Everard. The Judge saw the circumstances of the case to be “devastating, tragic, wholly brutal” and so exceptional that it warranted a whole-life order meaning Couzens will never be released. But the former Metropolitan Police officer will now have his whole life term reviewed by judges as his lawyer argues that his remorse and guilty plea should be taken into account. Judges are also looking at the cases of double killer Ian Stewart and the child killers Emma Tustin, Thomas Hughes and Jordan Monaghan. So is it right that killers should have their sentences reviewed? Double child killer Colin Pitchfork who was given a life sentence in 1988 was released in September 2021, only to be recalled back to prison just two-months later due to a breach of his licence conditions. So should life mean life? Jane doesn’t see the point of ‘life sentences’ if it means you can be released 12-years-later and Linda says an evil person will never change their ways.
